Install Kitchen Cabinets In Your New Kitchen

You want to save yourself some money by installing kitchen cabinets yourself, but you are not quite sure how to go about it. With my experience and knowledge of kitcen remodeling, I am going to sare with you the basics of kitchen cabinet installation as well as other finer details of the process.

The very first thing that I suggest that you do is familiarize yourself with the new design. Study the new design and imagine what the new room will look like when you are finished with the remodel. Doing this step will help you to understand all of the steps needed for the installation.

Determining that each cabinet that is installed is level and plumb will make things go a lot easier. Please get this step right. You need to make sure that you take your time with this. Most people fail to recognize the complexity of hanging kitchen cabinets. Understand that there is a lot more to a kitchen installation than just fastening cabinets up against the walls. Sure, you can just throw the cabinets against the wall and screw them in place, but the end result is going to look like it as well.

It is funny how many different rough and trim carpenters told me that my work was simple until they actually tried a complex kitchen installation. It was a little funny to see how difficult it actaully was for them to tackle one of the more complex installations. It was not long until they understood that installing kitchen cabinets and actually knowing how to correctly install them was two totally different things.

This does not mean that you cannot do it yourself or that you need to be good with woodworking, it is just that there are some things that you need to understand about installing kitchen cabinets correctly. The very most important part of a kitchen install is to make sure that each and every cabinet is installed level and plumb.

So for example, the countertop fabricator is coming to make up the template for your top and right away notices that the cabinets that you have installed are not straight, have a slight hump in between them or are not perfectly level. More than likely, the fabricator will refuse to make a template until you have fixed all of the problems. Any countertop fabricator will refuse to install their tops until the cabinets are straight, flat and level.

You will find that choosing a solid surfaced top is going to be very unforgiving in that it will not conform to the cabinets surface, making it imperative that you get the base cabinets flat and level. Your kitchen cabinet installation needs to be precise in order for everything else to fall into place.

You can install kitchen cabinets yourself and save money in the process, but if you are not careful, then the mistakes that you could possibly make will eat into those savings.
