You have a kitchen remodeling project and you want to tackle the kitchen cabinet installation yourself, but you are not quite sure where to start. I am here to give you some pointers on how to install kitchen cabinets in your new kitchen, giving you the confidence that you can do it.
So, first things first, you need to become familiar with your new layout of the kitchen. Study the new design and imagine what the new room will look like when you are finished with the remodel.
Doing this step will help you to understand all of the steps needed for the installation. Determining that each cabinet that is installed is level and plumb will make things go a lot easier. Do not underestimate this step.
Take your time and get it right. Most people fail to recognize the complexity of hanging kitchen cabinets. Understand that there is a lot more to a kitchen installation than just fastening cabinets up against the walls. If you do not take your time and get things just right, the end results are going to reflect that.
Many times I have had carpenters tell me that my line of work was easy until they were presented with a kitchen install and they quickly realized how complex it can get. When it came down to it, they had some serious problems and had no way of figuring out how to move ahead. Something that they quickly realized was that correctly installing the cabinets as opposed to just screwing them into place was altogether two different situations.
This does not mean that you cannot do it yourself or that you need to be good with woodworking, it is just that there are some things that you need to understand about installing kitchen cabinets correctly. Making sure that the cabinets are level, plumb, and in a straight line with each other is the most important aspect to any kitchen cabinet installation.
So for example, the countertop fabricator is coming to make up the template for your top and right away notices that the cabinets that you have installed are not straight, have a slight hump in between them or are not perfectly level. He will more than likely advise you that he cannot make the template due to the errors in the installation, pack up his stuff and make a return trip later once the mistakes have been taken care of.
A stone counter-top fabricator will not install their product unless the cabinets are perfectly flat and level. If you have chosen a stone top and the cabinets have a slight hump in them at some point, the installation is going to get very ugly really fast. Your kitchen cabinet installation needs to be precise in order for everything else to fall into place.
By making costly mistakes during the installation, you are basically wasting the money that you would have saved by installing the cabinets yourself correctly.
